Derivita was founded by Devlin Daley — co-founder of Canvas/Instructure, the dominant K-12 and higher ed LMS — and Ryan Brown, a former senior engineer at Google. They built Derivita because they watched schools struggle with math technology that wasn’t actually built for math.
The result is a proprietary Computer Algebra System built from scratch to evaluate mathematical reasoning — not just to check whether an answer matches a key. It’s technically hard to build and genuinely valuable to the students who use it.
