Teaching hybrid or fully online math classes has presented a unique set of challenges both for instructors and students. In the classroom, instructors are able to do quick checks to evaluate how well their students are comprehending key concepts. In a remote environment - it’s a little trickier - and even more critically important to quickly assess how well students are grasping the material. At ArizMATYC, Devlin Daley, co-founder of Derivita presented on the newest features at Derivita, which were designed to help with these challenges and also provided a sneak peek at SpotCheck, a synchronous, online tool for instructors to assess their students in real-time while also encouraging class participation and student engagement. 

New Derivita Capabilities

In the presentation, Devlin explained that at Derivita, we don't simply create features for the sake of having something new. We listen to our partners, the feedback they provide, and the current challenges they are having. The Derivita Team has been hard at work developing the latest set of capabilities to better support hybrid and online learning.

Derivita Assignment Types - Homework, Quizzes, and Exam Mode

Derivita is unmatched for formative assessments, such as homework assignments, but we knew instructors and schools needed more tools around summative assessment. Derivita now has three modes for assignments: homework, quizzes and exams.

• Homework = mastery-based, feedback on every attempt and dynamic solutions.
• Quizzes = feedback, can show solutions or not, password protect and timer options.
• Exams = high stakes summative assessment, one-and-done, grade all-at-once, no solutions or feedback.

Derivita Exam Accommodations

Time limit overrides can be added by student for the entire course! This timer override will apply to all Derivita quizzes/exams.
