Flexibility for Any Course Modality

As the fall semester is underway, one key theme has emerged across both the K12 and Higher Education landscape - the ability to be and remain flexible. Being flexible is essential to almost every aspect of life right now, as we are all trying to find balance and make the best of the current circumstances.

The abrupt transition to remote learning this Spring brought about a surge in demand for online platforms that meet the needs of students, educators, and families. Now, six months later, the majority of schools are 100% online or experimenting with a wide variety of hybrid approaches. Some institutions have even had to reverse or change course, after starting the semester in person, to a hybrid or fully online model. While no one knows exactly what to expect through the Fall, the one thing that we will all be faced with is the ability to remain flexible as we strive to provide our students with the best educational experience possible, regardless of the course modality.

One big challenge that educators are facing is the ability to efficiently and effectively teach math, while adapting to multiple modalities (in-class, hybrid, or online) and even switching between modalities throughout the semester. The Derivita platform provides the flexibility that students, educators, and families need while providing powerful tools and support for STEM education. Whether the class is face-to-face, hybrid, or online, the Derivita platform can be immediately adapted for any modality.

Flexible Assignment Types and Randomization

Derivita’s questions create automatic randomizations, to ensure that students attempt unique questions each time and throughout the assignment. Educators can set the number of attempts and the number of randomizations based on the assignment type. Derivita offers homework, quizzes or exam assignment types, and each mode has a different combination of settings based on the needs of the educator. Derivita assignments cover everything from mastery-based assignments to higher stakes, single attempt, timed exams. Learn more about Derivita’s Exam Mode here!

Digital and/or Printed Assignments

Any Derivita assignment - including homework, quizzes, reviews and tests, can easily be rendered as printed assignments with a click of a button. These printed assignments can also be randomized and generated with or without solutions. Students can upload their assignments right to Canvas and, with Canvas SpeedGrader, educators can efficiently grade student work and provide feedback. With Derivita, educators can use printed versions of assignments mixed with digital assignments for in-class, hybrid or online courses. Auto-Graded, Open-Ended Math Questions

Student submissions are entirely auto-graded and scores are immediately added to the Canvas grade book. Yes, this even includes open-ended questions, manipulatives, and graphs! Utilizing our proprietary computer algebra system (CAS), Derivita can detect and provide feedback on concepts from symbolic algebra to graphing to numerical evaluation.

Immediate, Meaningful Student Feedback

Derivita can actually do math. Derivita's CAS can detect differences in properties and forms of math expressions to auto-grade questions (even open-ended ones!) and provide targeted feedback using the student’s actual answers. From Algebra to Geometry to Calculus, Derivita can provide educators with the customized content they need for their course as well as provide immediate, meaningful feedback to each student. If a student is struggling to to arrive at the correct answer, Derivita will show them how to solve the problem and will immediately provide the student with another, similar question. This process can be repeated until the student has mastered the skill. Learn more about Derivita’s feedback here!

Lockdown & Secure Browser Settings at No Cost

Lockdown Settings are available on ALL Derivita Assignments at no additional cost! Through Derivita’s partnership with Proctorio, educators can enable customized lockdown settings directly within any Derivita assignment. Additional options available with a Proctorio subscription include identity verification and automated, remote proctoring. Learn more about our test security and remote proctoring options here!

Mobile Friendly - Anytime, Anywhere, Any Device!

Derivita works on any mobile device, because many students do their school work on their phones. The Derivita platform is available on Chromebooks, Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android. Students and educators can switch devices as needed and pick up right where they left off. Derivita provides anytime, anywhere access - on any device.

Actionable Analytics

At a glance, educators can quickly see which topics need more instruction and where students may be struggling. Our educator dashboard provides real-time data on the number of attempts, length of time per problem and incorrect/correct breakdowns. No student information is displayed in the dashboard, so it can also be used as a review tool for your online sessions or as a way to show common errors while in class.

Works with any Textbook

Derivita allows educators to select from an expansive library of questions to deliver assignments for homework, review, quizzes, tests and high-stakes exams. This makes Derivita easily adapted and aligned to any textbook or open educational resource (OER).

Seamless Integration within the LMS

Derivita integrates directly into your school’s LMS and seamlessly sends grades right to the gradebook. Course setup is quick and easy, only taking a few minutes to get started. Students and educators have a single-sign-on right within the LMS and don’t have to ever navigate to another platform. All work is done without ever leaving the LMS!

While education is quite unpredictable right now, we are here to help! At Derivita, we are continually expanding our capabilities to deliver features and tools that educators need the most. Supporting students, educators, and families remains our top priority - and that is something you can count on!
